Born in Orange, California and calling Colorado home, Breanne has yet to live in the same town for more than 3 years. You might say she was raised to travel. Spending too much time in one town only makes her fervent to see fresh beautiful views, meet interesting new people, and explore unseen parts of the world. Until 2 years ago, working up the corporate ladder seemed the only option to live a happy and fulfilled life. After all, money buys happiness. Fortunately, Breanne was lucky enough to find an inspiring Landy and the greatest travel partner to lead her to true happiness…

The idea for this trip didn’t so much spring from our own dreams, as much as we were infected with it! In June 2004, I stumbled across a Land Rover Discovery for sale that was kitted out like a Camel Trophy truck. The owners, James and Angela, were in the process of planning a 1 ˝ year long expedition to Africa in their beautiful Defender 90. As my girlfriend and I spoke with them we were overwhelmed with inspiration to embark on a similar adventure. I proceeded to buy the Discovery and we began making plans for our own overland expedition. Part way through the process of prepping the Discovery and planning our route through Central and South America it became apparent to us that we had to make some difficult decisions and reevaluate our goals for the trip. After much discussion, we came to the conclusion that we wanted a different type of experience for this trip. We don't want the luxury of our own awesome SUV. Instead, we will be carying 6 months of our lives around in backpacks, riding the same buses and trains used by the locals. This decision will thrust the local experience onto us rather than being shielded by the security of the Land Rover. (Other reasons behind the decision are that Dave finally admitted he knows nothing about working on cars and that we will be saving about $20k doing it with backpacks!) Our route and itinerary haven't changed much. We'll just have to be much more patient and creative in getting to the places we want. We will be leaving the States in mid-January. We have no definite itinerary, but will go where our adventurous spirits lead us. We will have fun along the way, but we also hope to experience South America in a way that is only possible in an adventure such as this. We have posted this website to keep our friends and families up to date with our progress as this will be our primary means of communication. Perhaps most importantly, we have posted this website to inspire others to undertake life changing adventures. You only have one life, go ahead and experience all that you can! |
Originally from Seattle, Dave moved to Boulder, Colorado, 5 yrs ago to attend the University of Colorado at Boulder. It was here that his restless nature fully developed, as he would escape to the mountains at every chance to indulge in pristine powder skiing, epic mountain bike rides or awe inspiring 14,000 ft peaks. Since graduating in December 2004, Dave has worked for a business risk consulting company in Denver. Safe to say, Dave dreads the sedentary lifestyle of a desk jockey. This trip will be a life changing experience, but he refuses to disclose the details of that change as of yet.
