Below is our original route through Central and South America. Now that we're no longer driving, our route has changed somewhat. We are still planning on hitting many of the same areas. Right now, our plan is to fly to Southern Mexico in mid-January, and spend a couple weeks in Mexico and Belize before heading to Guatemala. Several of Dave's family members will be in Guatemala in early February for some volunteer work with Agros International. We will meet up with them and volunteer our time.
From there, we'll continue south towards Costa Rica. Next, we will fly either to Ecudor or Chile. Chile is more desireable as we will be able to hit Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego before winter comes. Unfortunately, flights to Santiago are very expensive. Regardless, we anticipate spending the majority of our time along the West Coast of South America. Unfortunately, every trip must come to an end and we will be retunring to Boulder in July, 2007. |

1. Depart Boulder, CO in the fall of 2006. 2. Meander through the US for a short time, eventually entering Mexico at the San Diego border crossing. 3. Drive south down the Baja Peninsula before taking the ferry from La Paz to mainland Mexico. 4. Meander through Mexico in the general direction of Belize. 5. Enjoy time in Belize before heading south again trough Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama. 6. Seeing as there is no road connecting North America and South America (Breanne doesn’t seem to believe that I can drive the Landy through the Darien Gap!) we’ll ship the landy from the Pacific side of Panama down to Ecuador. |

7. From Ecuador we’ll continue south through Bolivia, Peru, Chile and Argentina. Patagonia will be a major destination point. 8. We’ll drive south until we can’t go any further, reaching Tierra del Feugo, the southern tip of South America. 9. Now we’ll head north up the Atlantic coast towards Brazil. 10. At this point, we may ship the landy back to the US or continue driving up through Guyana, Venezuela, and French Guinea. |
