Vehicle Preparation

We found a roof top tent for an awesome price on Ebay! It is essentially perfect for our trip, as it will fold out over the back and have a ladder all the way to the ground. Unfortunately, while waiting for our tent to be delivered we came to the realization that we ought to backpack around South America as opposed to driving. Therefore, this will be the last entry for work performed on the car as we will be selling it soon.

All you do is unfold it, so easy!

It would make a lovely home.

All packaged up and ready for the road.

In the past few weeks we painted the hood, removed 1 set of PIAA lights (5 sets is a little excessive!), removed the high-lift jack (don't put these on the roof rack, they're too heavy), attempted to relocate the rear fog lights (the bolts were too rusted, will have to cut them off later), and painted the hood. It is absolutely necessary to paint the hood with ultra flat paint when lights are installed on the roof rack. The ultra flat paint prevents the light from reflecting back into your eyes. Without out this, you won't be able to see anything other than you're super bright hood!

After committing the ultimate sin of sanding the crap out of his hood, Dave proceeds to spray paint it a lovely shade of ulta-flat brown.

Almost done! Breanne is removing the last of the masking tape. Now to reinstall it on the landy.

Dave is happy because he can now use all his lights and see the road!

The landy has remained virtually untouched since it was purchased nearly a year ago. The landy did under go some pricey repairs, namely a new heater core (8.5 hrs of labor!). More modifications will occur in the coming weeks now that we are fully committed to the trip. The full list of vehicle modifications to be performed is too extensive to list now but they will be listed here as they occur.
